Question 1

1. What is a jewelry appraisal?

Accepted Answer

An appraisal is a professional evaluation of your jewelry that provides an accurate description, quality grading, and current market value. It’s a legal document you can use for insurance, estate planning, resale, or personal knowledge.

Question 2

2. Why do I need an appraisal?

Accepted Answer

Most people need an appraisal for insurance coverage to protect against loss, theft, or damage. Others need it for estate settlement, divorce, donations, or to know the fair resale value.

Question 3

3. How often should I have my jewelry appraised?

Accepted Answer

Values change over time with the market price of gold, diamonds, and gemstones. We recommend updating your appraisal every 2–3 years to make sure your insurance reflects today’s replacement value.

Question 4

4. What’s included in the appraisal?

Accepted Answer

Each appraisal includes:

A detailed description of the piece (metal type, gemstones, design).

Stone measurements, weights, and grades (color, clarity, cut).

Professional photographs.

Current replacement value.

A signed report by our GIA Gemologist and certified appraiser.

Question 5

5. How much does an appraisal cost?

Accepted Answer

Our fees are based on time and expertise, not the value of the jewelry. Pricing is simple:

$135 for the first item

$95 for each additional item (up to 5)

$75 per item once you have more than 5 pieces

We’ll always confirm your total before starting so there are no surprises.

Question 6

6. How long does the process take?

Accepted Answer

Most appraisals can be completed within 1–3 business days depending on the complexity of the piece. Same-day or rush service may be available on request.

Question 7

7. Do I need to leave my jewelry with you?

Accepted Answer

Not always. Simple items can often be done while you wait by appointment. More complex pieces may need to stay with us for detailed grading and documentation. All items left are fully insured and secured in our vault.

Question 8

8. Can you appraise jewelry I didn’t buy from Robson’s?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We appraise all fine jewelry and watches, regardless of where it was purchased.

Question 9

9. Is an appraisal the same as a grading report or certificate?

Accepted Answer

No. A lab report (like GIA) describes the diamond or gemstone only. An appraisal includes both the gem details and the overall market replacement value of the entire piece.

Question 10

10. Will insurance companies accept your appraisals?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our appraisals meet industry standards and are accepted by all major insurance companies.

Question 11

Is your Jewelry Appraiser a Gemologist?

Accepted Answer

Yes, he holds a degree of GIA as a graduate gemologist.
